Title: Early (1926/26) OHV Sunbeam valve guides:
Post by: Klaus Mueller on September 10, 2025, 12:14:18 PM
Early (1926/26) OHV Sunbeam valve guides: I have found bronze inserts in the hairpin valve spring valve guides in my 1925/26 twin port Model 9 cylinder head. Is that likely a repair or did the factory install bronze inserts in the valve guides as a standard?

No Klaus, all Sunbeam valve-guides up to at least 1935 were cast iron. The reason for this is that phosphor-bronze guides require lubrication which, on Sunbeams, is at best hit-and-miss and, at worst, non-existent!

Hi Klaus, this is a short report about my experience with bronze guides. Cheers, Thomas
