Title: Head gasket m9
Post by: Bert44 on March 21, 2025, 01:19:46 AM
Hi All

I'm slowly working on resurrecting my 1937 Model 9. Crankcase zipped up, new cylinder liner and piston, head refurbished with new valves, guides and springs ( thanks Thomas). I've had the cam followers ground and polished but my cams are in poor condition. Does any one have a photograph of the cams that show the lift.
I haven't bolted the head down tightly as I'm not sure whether there was a head gasket originally fitted. My engine came with an obviously homemade copper gasket but I've used valve grinding paste on head and barrel and appear to have a gas tight mating.
Gasket or not?
Anyone have good cams they with to part with?

Hi Brett, unfortunately I don't have the exact dimensions of the cams. Maybe the picture will help you. The head never had a seal and you did everything right with the grinding paste. Perhaps Chris Odling in the Hebrides can help you with the cams. He successfully refurbished my cam followers.
Cheers, Thomas

No head gasket ever fitted as standard - none appear in the Parts lists!

If the teeth are in reasonable condition, the cams can be re-furbished. Try Chris Odling on chris@odshed.co.uk
