Hi,
My Sunbeam tank seems to have been modified in the past. Can someone help with either a photo or drawing of the tank so that I can restore it back to original
Thanks
Anji
Hi Anji
I have a few photos of models around that era but not specifically the 1921. The photos below are from a 1923 and 1926 I will also post photos of a 1917 model.
Graham
These from a 19173.5 hp & a 1925 model 5

Hi Anji,
I have sent you a sketch of a Model 7 tank. It may not be exactly the same as yours, but it will give a very good idea of the lining layout.
The magneto is likely to be an EIC, although an ML would work just as well. The carburetter could be either a B&B or an AMAC type 15 HYDM or HYSP. The choke diameter is probably 1" although you could use a 15/16"
I hope that helps!
Paul
There is quite a nice looking 1922 model 7 on UK Ebay at the moment looks quite good as far as originality goes and worth borrowing the pictures ;)

Thanks Paul. Great help. There is nil info here in India about Sunbeams. I have restoration manuals of almost everything under the sun, but cant find any on this bike. By the way, I cant access the sketch you sent. Could you please resend.
Attaching a few photos of the tank. Does it look right to you ? Also attaching a photo of My Flash we restored 6 years back. Take her often to Goa ( 550 kms ea way )

Hi Andy
Very gracious of you to offer help in my restoration. Much obliged.
Your bike is a beauty. How does she run & are you able to ride often ?
I will be in touch to bother you once I dismantle everthing.
Yhanks again for the offer

Hi
Another query : Is it permissable to use a BTH KA 1 mag on the 1921 Sunbeam. Iam unable to locate either a MIC or a ML
Thanks
Anji
if it fits the platform and goes in the right direction, probably yes
You will also need to check the spindle height of the mag above the platform. As standard, mags were either 45mm or 35mm. A 35mm type can always be fitted with a spacer plate between the mag and the platform.

Hi
Is it OK if I use stove enamel black paint. There's a guy here who specialises in stove enamelling.
Stove enamel would have been the original finish for frame, cycle parts etc but you need to be careful as some modern re-enamellers won't be familiar with older bike parts. It's increasingly difficult to get it don in the UK.
I would echo what Ian says - a lot of parts on a flat tank Sunbeam are soldered, so high temperature stoveing will see the tank, rear chaincase etc, fall apart!

Anji
Hi
Soft solder will melt at 180-190 deg C.
