Title: Points Burnishing Tool anyone?
Post by: norman_john on December 02, 2016, 02:08:11 PM
Good afternoon,
I have looked around for a suitable tool for keeping mag points in good fettle but haven't seen what (I think) I need, which is a very thin (0.010"?) burnishing tool.  What does everyone use?  Wet and dry, a needle file etc?  Not sure about either of those.

I would create a 'voting' post but don't know how in this forum, sorry.

Cheers
John

Most files won't touch points. I use fine production paper (like W&D but used dry). Emery can leave nasty particles lying about.

It never seems worth trying to do them in situ so I generally dismantle them.

I always remove and use a fine Arkansas oil stone preceded by a coarser stone if they are bad if your mag Condenser is in good nick they rarely need doing.
