Title: Amal carb washers
Post by: Steve_M90 on April 02, 2018, 06:08:24 PM
The washer at the bottom of my carb is worn and damaged. What is it made of? Where can I obtain a replacement?

Thanks, Steve

Might be a daft question, Steve, but have you tried the Amal Carb Company?
http://amalcarb.co.uk
Ive found them to be very helpful when Ive rung them. Terrific service too, just like we used to get from real people  ;)

Just a quick couple of points, gasket sets for these carbs are easily obtained - but there are two sizes 276/Type 6 and the larger 289/ Type 29 so make sure you get the right one. Secondly make sure the washer clears the hole in the jet block. I have seen washers that are too small inside diameter and block or partially obstruct the hole which feeds the pilot circuit. Cheers Rick

I'm pleased to report that it is easy to buy spares from Amal!! Thanks to Steve for the suggestion - I had assumed all original Sunbeam suppliers were long gone!! I rang their technical department to confirm the correct spare although it was easy to identify on their website. New washer fitted and problem resolved.
