ok chaps so I'm after ignition timing  for my 1927 model 9 I've seen the chart here and know it's 55 deg's BTDC but does anyone know what that is in inches so I can stick a measuring stick down the plug hole.....I've read in one of the old Sunbeam manuals it gives it as 9/16" BTDC does that sound right?

Beamers General Discussion Forum / Interesting Numbers
Last post by Daniel - February 09, 2024, 02:39:55 PM
Interesting Numbers from the Swiss Register. Attached you find following information:

2023_Sunbeam-Schweiz_1 --> is giving you an overview of all registered Sunbeams in Switzerland (95), with a range in which decade first registered

2023_Sunbeam-Schweiz_2 &_3 --> is giving you more details about which model is registered

To make it easier to understand. Before 1945 no type certificate has been issued. Meaning all Marston Sunbeams have Certificate (Typengenehmigung) X. Since there is no proper database for TC X it might be possible, that 2 equal models are mentioned separate.

The last column is showing how many machines of the specific model are presently registered. The Number in parentheses is telling you how many machines of the specific model have been registerd during the last 5 years)

Regards
Dani

We have all Sunbeam manuals, Spares lists and catalogues available on the Shop, also new copies of Bob Champ's Book on Sunbeam history. The other ones recommended are all available on e-bay.

Don't forget the various mesh strainers (I would hesitate to call them filters!) in the oil tank and sump. Also worth checking the clutch adjustment, including the clutch stops (helps selection of first gear from rest) and push-rod clearance. Check the oil level in the primary chaincase and its consistency. You need just enough to touch the bottom run of the chain, and ATF is probably the best oil to use.

Originally it would have been gold leaf, but later I suspect it was a gold paint, applied by brush-in-hand.
