Title: Valve seat pressure
Post by: fmorik on July 10, 2019, 08:12:31 AM
Hello to the club members! Does anybody know the correct valve seat pressure for coil springs for Mod. 9A OHV 1937 or a recommend pressure? I purchased valve springs for Mod. 9 from the club shop (No. 1S-27) with about 88 lbs (40 Kg). Would this be okay? The old ones have had a seat pressure of 48 lbs.
Best regards
Franz

Hi Franz..this site is a little slower in response from members, but you get good information.
The thing about your original springs is that no-one can say how worn yours were.
I personally would not want my springs to be more than about 30Kg..There are much stronger fitted on some bikes.
I have heard of 50Kg 110lbs on goldstars and some racing Vincents, and possible even higher poundage. but these seem to be high revving ( 7000 rpm)+ engines..
Have you tried talking to Chris Odling, his details are in the suppliers section on the home page for this site.
Hope you find what you need..John Hood
