Title: 1931 Model 9 - adv/ret
Post by: oggers on February 10, 2023, 04:59:47 PM
Quick check please. I'm setting the Mag timing - 1931 model 9 with the Lucas mag

I understand advance is tight wire - i.e. lever pulled in.

Am I right?

Both of mine are..if the advance cable goes into the mag body to the right of the points ( looking at the points end) it's tight wire advance , if it's to the left it's slack wire advance.

that is of course when the points turn clockwise when you look at them. On points that turn anti clockwise it's the opposite effect.

Yes - cable is to the right and point turn clockwise - when engine turns forward of course....

remembering that to advance the ignition for any given magneto the cam ring and or points plate must move in the opposite direction to which the magneto rotates so if you have a clockwise rotating magneto to advance the ignition the points / cam ring has to rotate in an anti clockwise direction.....if that makes sense
