Title: Chrome tank for 1931 model 9
Post by: oggers on January 24, 2023, 10:42:55 AM
Gents

Currently restoring a 1931 model 9, but underneath the current painted tank, it is too far gone/dented/filled to be chromed - as it should be as per the 1931 model I believe? I guess my only option is to hunt for a spare chromed tank, but I fear hen's teeth may be easier to find.

Advice appreciated

Many thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

I thought Sunbeam tanks are simply painted black...

Cheers, Thomas

Not in 1931 I believe - one year in chrome and black.

This is a picture off the Internet of a 1931 model 9 with a chromed tank.

Does a Model 10 tank matches a Model 9? Just in case: https://thetimingchest.com/product/1931-1932-marston-sunbeam-model-10-350cc-motorcycle-fuel-tank-original-condition/

The model 10 tank is different to the 9 or 90 for 1931. Yes only year they used Chrome on the tank. My 90 was in need of a re-chrome and had dents are you sure yours is beyond it? Mine before and now.

Ive just brought this original 1931 at the weekend and it has the original chrome tank and hasn't been restored. I will take some better shots when the bike arrives later this week.
