Hi folks the club is thinking of getting some spanners made for the large fircone valve caps and also a C spanner for the exhaust nuts. Can any one recommend the type of steel we should use? They will be laser cut from 6mm steel plate

I can get these water cut if you can scan the spanners at 100% 300DPI a local firm will cut them if not if you can send me both spanners I can have some made for new spares stock
Hi John
Better still I can send a CAD file in DXF format which the laser cutters and water jet printers can use, we can then get quotes and decide on how to proceed.
Graham
That would be great I am going over to get some metal next week and could pop in and ask them for a quote so drop me a PM and I will get a quote
regards
John
Hi John
I will finish off the cad drawings and send them over to you might not be until Monday if thats ok.
Graham
You can certainly put me down for a pair of spanners when they're available. Good work, chaps.
On a related matter, has anyone found a reliable supplier of the actual fir cone valve cap? It would save me having to make one from scratch or obtaining a 'blank' from the Austrian supplier. Mine's getting fins as thick as Mr Creosote's proverbial 'waffer-thin mint'. ;)
Steve
Hi Paul
That's fine as I am going over to pick up some metal bar on Monday or Tuesday so I can pop in

Guys can you do me a favour measure the across flats dimension of the Fircone caps and the spark plug holder.
I have measured mine as 1.727" across the flats for both fircone and spark plug holder.
Graham
Graham, the brass cap that holds the 'flint' is 1.730" whilst the fir cone is an ominously beastly 1.666" :o

Just come across this thread while exploring the forum. Graham, if it is not too late I would be interested in a set of spanners - my plug holder seems to need tightening every few hundred miles. Maybe I should get a copper washer too!
Count me in too !
Just found a 46mm copper washer on Amazon after failing with normal searches.https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01EZZOMZ4/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01EZZOMZ4/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
Better size and thinner copper washer on Ebay! The 46mm would have needed a bit of filing to fit. Cheaper too.

Can you included me as one who would like to buy a fir cone spanner too please!
Well done, chaps.
One thing I've noticed though (speaking as a Yorkshireman ;) ) is that as I need one of each of the two spanner sizes, the postage for two ordered together is £1.50 more than two ordered separately :-\ That's nigh on enough for a pint ::)
Steve
Let me check that, it does not sound correct. OK I had the weight incorrect so it pushed it to the next shipping band.
Try again.
Graham.
Thanks for that, Graham. Order for a pair of spanners has been duly placed :)
Steve
Got mine today :) Very nicely made too. Thanks again to all those involved in making them available.
Steve
Thanks for the feedback, its appreciated. :)
