Title: Wiring loom
Post by: Jim Barbour on March 07, 2015, 12:47:43 PM
Hi ,
I am in the process of putting together the bits I need for the wiring and was all set to use some coloured replica braided cables. However the remnants of the old wiring loom would suggest that all the separate cables were black rubber covered identified with coloured sheathing at the ends? Is this correct?
Thanks
Jim

I've seen old lucas rubber looms with the ends marked as you describe.  In fact I have one bike with one which needs rewiring as it's old hard and cracked.

These days when wiring I opt for modern materials.
1) Black PVC automotive wire (32x0.2) with colored ID tags as per the originals. This means that you only have to buy one reel of cable when making up your loom.
2) heat shrink the entire loom to make a neat job.
3) Also  run an additional earth cable from the tail light rather than rely on the frame. Modern paints act as too good an insulator.
