Title: Sunbeam 9top yoke
Post by: John Dodimead on March 29, 2015, 02:10:31 PM
Hi all
Can anyone tell me of a way to get the cup of the cup and cone bearing out of the top yoke of the headstock of a 1930 Sunbeam 9. The bore of the cup is larger than the top yoke bore so I can't make a puller. I have tried heating it up and driving a thin wedge in to the radius gap. I am reluctant to drill any holes in the yoke to drive it out with a punch and breaking it up by grinding at it with a Dremel would be laborious always assuming I can get a new one. Any ideas
Regards John dodimead

Sorted it
I ground 3 scollops into the body behind the cup with an 8 mm mounted point from the other end at an angle and then used an 8mm punch at the same angler. It flew out

I have heard of people successfully adding "weld" to the cup to assist extraction.
