Title: Magneto cam plate
Post by: max on July 07, 2013, 01:12:40 PM
Hi,

Can anyone tell me which cam plate should be fitted to my 1936 Model 9? The magneto (M01) was bought seperate to the bike at an autojumble, is anti clockwise in rotation and has a camplate with "L" stamped on it. The mag has been rebuilt professionally but I think that this could have the wrong cam plate as the bike certainly wants to advance further and struggles to get to 50mph!

Suggestions on a postcard to!!!!!

Anti-clock is correct, but I can't quite see why the camplate should make a difference to the ignition timing. Try setting the timing at full advance to the figure recommended in the manual. Let me know if you need one - we have good quality copies at £4.00 inc P&P.

Timing for points to open should be 9/16 inches or 43 degrees before TDC at fully advanced. Then check the timing at fully retarded which should correspond approximately with TDC.
