Title: Gaskets Model 9
Post by: Arthur Farrow on June 02, 2022, 01:16:02 PM
Getting my 9 ready for Banbury (a mate is riding) and I'm fitting a new magneto and about to look at clutch. Cannot see my Sunbeam had previously used gaskets ...did they ? and should there be a felt on mag drive?  THANKS

Could not see any "paper washer" in my parts book apart from cylinder base, but maybe I'm not looking in right place

Up until 1937, the only gasket (or paper washer in Marston terms) listed on the parts lists was for the cylinder base. For 1937 onwards, gaskets were listed for the timing chest, oil pump and primary chaincase, in addition to the cylinder base. There were also various felt washers for 1936-on wheel bearings, and rocker shafts 1938-on.

Whatever inaccuracies there may be on Marston parts Lists, if gaskets or washers were used, they would be listed.

Thanks for that response......amazing quality of workmanship on Sunbeam....my 1930 chaincase was oil tight something most manufacturers could not do in the 1960's !!i.
