Title: What type of Sunbeam is it?
Post by: FlyMik on October 07, 2017, 10:45:29 PM
Hi,

I got a Sunbeam from my uncle.
Unfortunately there are almost no documents existing.

Does anybody know this model, is it a model 7? Which age?

http://www.vintage-motorcycle.com/imageviewer.php?bid=324

At the end of the photos, there is an UK registration form and a list of various numbers, which says nothing to me.

The bike has the following numbers:
Frame: 43481
Engine: 166 19 226

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Michael

Hi Michael
Well Vintage Motorcycle .com listed this as a Sunbeam Model. 7. 85 x 105.5. 600cc 1924 when they sold it.
There is is a photo in the illustrated History of the Sunbeam of a 1922 Model 7 which looks very similar including the leaf front suspension, the only difference seems to be the front brake which I believe was changed to the drum arrangement  sometime between 1922 and 1924. I am sure that others in the club who are more expert could give the actual date of the change over to drum brakes.

Hi Graham,
Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I hope to  get some more contacts since I need to know how the oil system works and how it has to be adjusted.

Regards
Michael

From the numbers, the frame is a a 1926 Model 7, which would have drum brakes as pictured. The engine is earlier, around 1922. We have this machine on our Register, listed as 1926 with 1922 engine.

I hope this helps!
