Title: petrol cap

Hello beamers can anyone tell me how to take my petrol cap apart on my 1936 m8 the inner domed part will turn independently to the outer but does not unscrew is there some sort of lug type system if so how do i part them many thanks terry

No it doesn't unscrew or come apart,,The brass inner is held in by the indents that lock the cap to the tank.
Why do you need to separate them?
Idf it is to get it re-chromed then that can be done without stripping it..If the gasket needs changing the you just haveto remove the old gasket by digging it out and the 'fiddling' the new one in..john

Occasionally I have managed to get these apart for new gaskets and plating but at the expense of permanenet damage sometimes! Same with oil tank caps....... getting rare these days with the right lettering on them.
